hey guys i have a Phenom IIx4 940 BE CPU, HIS HD4850 1gb 256 bit Graphics card and 4gb 667 mhz dd2 ram. i want to upgrade my pc but i have limited money for now. it s better to get a HD7870xt graphics card or to get Intel 3570K CPU/motherboard and 2x4 gb 2133mhz ddr3 ram both for gaming and using autocad etc?

replace what you have with a i3 3225, b75 MB, 1600 ddr, and a amd 7750 or gtx 750/ gtx 650 /gtx 560...(for about 500) it will be the same speed as your system... an affordable, where as the dream system is going to be 1000...

I believe that gaming performance would be most economically improved by upgrading the RAM and the GPU. However, my impression is that AutoCAD is much more CPU intensive. You could possibly look at upgrading just the CPU and using it with your current motherboard, as I believe that AM3 and AM3+ CPUs with work on an AM2+ board. That could give you a performance boost and allow you to keep the CPU when you get around to upgrading the motherboard as well.

I agree with above comment.. if you will sue more autocad than gaming go for a new mobo+cpu+8GB. An i5 3570K is good however on a buget side the i5 3350p should suffice. Get a z77 motherboard and 1600 Mhz 8GB of ram. Give it a few months and after you have around 150-200$ you get a decent GPU.

agree!!... upgrading DDR2 RAM for a 4GB 1600 RAM DDR3 could increase the performance

but if you are able to buy mobo and CPU could be a great improvement, but you could save some bucks if you buy 1866 or 1600 RAM...

also i have used autocad 2D mostly, and you dont need nothing special, even with your actual rig you most have a good performance (except for the RAM)

if you want to use your system for rendering and design programs, nvidia ussually gives a better performance with game hardware
