Sapphire one is better.
Mainly due to better cooling and more durable and reliable design.

just to add a bit of flesh, I'm running an elderly Dell 9200, core 2 duo, 375 watt PSU, not much of a gamer, ,mainly want best poss vid stream for films etc with 2 monitor support inc Dell U2711 res 2560 x 1440, display port a must. If Sapphire is best, is the fanned version reasonably quiet or must I stump up the extra cash for the silent one ?

Fan version is much better to be honest.
It dissipates heat much quicker than discrete version and temperatures stay lower too.
