Just got a new monitor (Dell U2713HM), what is this red splotch!?

I just got a Dell U2713HM from Amazon, when I set the background to black, I see this:

Is there something I can do about this? Or should I just return/ exchange it?

  1. http://www.doihaveadeadpixel.com/ I would test it with this. I don't know that I've seen a dead pixel show up as red before, but that's what I'm leaning toward.

Either that or you're the terminator, and that's the reflection of your cyborg eye... Either way.

Oh no, its definitely red. But I'll check that out
  3. I believe a dead pixel would be black, it looks more like a cluster of stuck pixels. There are some programs out there that flash a bunch of different colors across your screen really quickly which sometimes works to unstick pixels but that is an awfully large cluster. I would try to unstick it first but chances are your best just returning it.
  4. Looks like impact damage to me.

+1 This is what I thought at first, but assumed that people had their ducks in order by now to properly ship a fragile object...
  6. Pixel defects during manufacturing don't show up this way.

The shape and large cluster of pixels is definitely impact damage.
  7. UGH I am going to see if I can loosen them up. If not, then time to deal with Amazon.

That damage looks too severe. The shape of that blotch tells me that the corner of something impacted the panel. The surface of the panel may also have a dimple that you can feel if you run your finger over it.

Agree I would get the RMA going on that as soon as possible. You can try to unstick them but I do not think it will do any good at all. Best bet would be to get the RMA started and get that ship back so you can get the replacement as soon as possible.
  10. Damn well besides that, the other 99.8% look great! Asking for a refund now. Couldnt exchange it because of course they dont have it in stock anymore.
