Looking for a decent sound card to play games and listen to music with. Have a good £250 sound system with a £100 pair of headphones and can get a deal on £150 for the ZxR.

Just wondering whether they are a worthwhile upgrade for £150 over my ROG SupremeFX Audio 8-Channel High Definition Audio on board sound with:
- SupremeFX Shielding Technology
- ELNA® Premium Audio Capacitors

Thanks in advance.

Ok, if we will go technical, a dedicated sound card should do better then onboard, yes it also puts off some stress from the motherboard and CPU I guess... so yes everyone will tell you yes a dedicated card will be performing better then onboard. really depends if you really feel like it will be right for the thing you do with your PC :) I heard great things about the SB-Z.

Asus does not skimp when it comes to ROG products. Usually the audio chips in ROG boards are kick ass... I would save my money on something else if it's not a very old old board, :) btw what board do you have?

Thanks for the reply bud, and its a Z87 Hero. I've read that the onboard sound isn't too shabby, but I've not really found anything detailed on it and was wondering whether anybody on here has had any prior experience with the sound chips on the RoG boards and how they compare to discrete cards.

Thanks again for the reply :)!
