Z87 motherboards wifi

I honestly might be being very stupid but I need wifi explained to me. I have a wireless dongle for my computer, looking to invest in one of the cheaper asus z87 mother boards. Will it have to have onboard wi-fi in order for the dongle to work. If so what should I do? Its not really investing in a z87 pro if the only thing I really want is the wifi. If so what sort of product would I need to get. Im guessing its PCI card.

  1. The Z87 Pro gives ya $90-$110 off w/ the CPU, so it's basically a ridiculously underpriced feature rich $100 or $120 MoBo

$100 discount and $10 promo code
    $450 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1352791

$80 discount and $10 promo code
    $370 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1352787

    The cheapest boatd w/ 2 PCIE-3 slots is $150 + $240 for the 4670k is $390

So the "cheap" Asus MoBo w/o WiFi actually costs ya $20 more then the one with WiFi and all those other features
  2. Sadly I'm English and those deals have been taunting me for some time.
  3. Is it a USB dongle and if so why would you need a board that also has WiFi?
  4. By dongle, do you mean USB dongle? If so, those are usually self-contained WiFi adapters all over a USB interface. You can plug it into any computer to give it a wireless network adapter.

If not, what port does it use to attach to your current mboard?
  5. Just to clear a few things up. My current computer has a p5k premium asus motherboard. I also use this (http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/290915123516?var=lv&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=66&ff19=0 ) Belkin adapter and I get wifi perfectly. If i plug this adapter into one of the asus motherboards such as the z87-a will i get wifi. Again im sorry about my lack of knowledge.

Yes, you do not need a motherboard with WIFI if you are going to use that dongle.

The same as your dongle does.

Yep, the advantage of the USB adapter is that it can move from system to system.
  10. They are just building Wifi onto the mobo, much as laptops have had it built in for a few years now
