I have 2 separate desktops configured quite differently, but both face the same issue.
one is a SB on gigabyte z77-d3h, and the other is an IB on asrock z77 pro 3.
both are on win8 pro, x64.
when i try to plugin usb3.0 devices (e.g. my WD passport 1tb and other thumbdrives) to the usb3 ports, it doesn't always work. most of the time, it won't detect the drive. i need to plug in and out quite a few times for it to be detected. however on usb2 ports, it works reliably. once connected (be it on usb3 or 2), it stays and never gets disconnected (i.e. definitely not drive issue).
initially i thought it was the driver issue. turns out when i went to Intel's page, it says the drivers are auto-updated on win8 and downloads are only needed for win7.

this doesn't leave me with other alternatives. what can i do to make my usb3 ports work reliably? i was researching on this issue and found many users to have the same problem with no WORKING SOLUTION.. be it on laptops or desktops.
