New build won't power up

Have read many similar posts on here, but they have not solved my problem.
Brand new build, assembled, double checked, triple checked, will not power up (just the green light on the MB).
So I assumed a bad case switch right? I tested it (for continuity when pressed) and found the power & reset switch wires were mislabeled (swapped), but both did work. I reversed them on the MB header and was certain it would now work, but it does not. Need some ideas on how to confirm whether the PSU is working. It does have 120V coming in, and both the 24 pin & 8 pin MB power connectors are properly seated.
Troubleshooting ideas? Can I bypass the switch and safely force the PSU on (just as a test)? Is there something I can test for (with a multi-tester) when the PSU is not running?

case: Rosewill Redbone U3
PSU: CoolerMaster Extreme-2 525
MB: ASUS Z87-A

Not clear on whether or not you have already tried this. It sounds like you are wanting a way to bypass the mobo power switch to test if it is faulty. If this is the case, it is safe to use a screwdriver to quickly 'short' the two pins on the motherboard that connect to your power-on switch on the case.

No fans, no sounds, nothing. I did try shorting the two power switch pins on the MB (w/paperclip, pliers, screwdriver); nothing. The PSU switch is on, and I do get a single light on the MB, but that is it. Both the case power switch and reset switch test as functioning (simple continuity test beeps when leads are applied to the two pins and the button is pressed), though their labels were swapped. Before I RMA the PSU I want to make absolutely certain that it won't function and that I am not overlooking anything. If I can get it to start on its own, then I'll know there is hope for it.
Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming...

If you have a spare Psu laying about, take out your video card and just have it power the motherboard, cpu, ram and system drive with the case cables plugged in. You can do this with even a 300w Psu. Cooler Master psu's aren't the best around though. Actually, the site I'm looking at says for that Psu, only use 75% of it's listed wattage: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx It's under Tier 4. Which would put it at 420w for a 525w Psu.

At the moment there is no discreet graphics card or drives plugged into it, just the MB w/CPU, RAM & fans, so I don't think it is too heavily taxed. If I can get it to work, I will then plug in a DVD RW, SATA hard drive, and an SSD.
If I have to RMA the PSU, I'll consider springing for a better one (this one came w/barebones kit).

Oops! Figured it out... The MB has the typical 24-pin connector, and also an 8-pin connector near the CPU. The PSU has a cable with a 6-pin + 2-pin, and another with 2 x 4-pin connectors. The 2 x 4-pin connectors are for the CPU; I had used the 6-pin + 2-pin cable (whose connectors are plug-compatible, but this cable is intended for a PCI-e graphics card). Thankfully the MB/PSU are smart enough to prevent careless fools like me from doing any real harm.
