I'm like you; a guy that gets called on from friends, family and neighbors to help them out with their computer stuff (and I do it, because I love them) but this time I'm the one that needs help.

I upgraded my cooler today (hyper 212 evo). Yesterday my system was running fine (albeit loudly).

After careful installation that went without any issue:

At the American Megatrends screen, it says: Please enter setup to recover bios settings. Press F1 or DEL.
I press F1 or DEL and it does nothing. Keyboard is recognized, everything is working from appearance, but not allowing input.

Mobo (Asus M5A97R2.0) and processor (FX-8350) are both less than a month old. New system was too loud on the stock fan.

I tried: Resetting the Bios through the jumper method, the battery method and also the thumb drive method and it doesn't appear to be working (or I don't know how to tell if it is with the current setup?).

I tried: A PS/2 adapter to my USB keyboard.

I tried: Connecting the old cooler back up.

I tried: Unplugging and reattaching everything to ensure that it is seated properly.

I tried: Booting with 1 stick.

I tried: The USB header ports on the front of the case.

I tried: Connecting the new cooler into a standard (non-cpu cooler) fan slot.

I tried: A "DirectKey" button on my mobo that should immediately take me to my bios settings.

(update) I tried: booting windows 7 from the DVD drive. I guess the boot order is not in my favor.

I tried: swearing at it and later offering it some of my alcohol.

Please. I've been at this for 7 hours. I will send someone a gift card of their choice (if it is allowed) if they can solve this one.

remove everything from the motherboard and let it sit for at least 30 minutes

then install the battery, one stick of ram, the cpu and heatsink and gpu
connect the monitor to the gpu, power to the board, keyboard, and try to enter BIOS, pressing the Delete key rapidly from the minute you jump the power terminals on the mboard with a flat head screwdriver

SO I went out and exchanged my motherboard and processor for a brand new one. Booted right up.

Ran like this for about 4 hours until I had to restart it from installing updates.

Right back to the exact same problem. Could really use another set of eyes on this.

I didn't reinstall windows. I have no SSD.

Edit: I just got off the phone with Asus tech support and he thinks its my keyboard or powersupply !? The keyboard is lighting up when you press the Numloc & Caps though? The power supply boggles me completely.
