I have a nvidia gtx 660 an a sanyo plasma tv connected via DVI to HDMI and the sound worked out of box but some times I had to reboot the machine for it to catch. I installed the Intel mobo drivers and nvidia drivers from the disk and my configuration still worked getting sound from the cable. then 2 days later and the sound stopped going through the cable so I connected a 3.5mm audio to the Composite ports on the TV and it worked again for ano2 days. Now today I get home and install a new 900 Watt PSU because the previous one was 500 Watt and was failing when playing games and benchmarks. Computer boots up fine then I notice I have no Audio. I tried using 3.5mm to composite, then 3.5 audio to 3.5 audio in the TV with dvi - HDMI port 1 on the TV and still does not work. I then updated the nvidia drivers from the site to the latest and still does not work. I tried rebooting the machine and tv some times starting the tv first then booting the machine, also booting the machine to windows 7 first then turning on the TV. I also tried bleeding the capacitors.

Does anyone know a configuration will work or a driver that will restore DVI (single channel) to HDMI sound the way it was with out doing a re-image?

Resolution Found:
I uninstalled the driver for the Realtek Motherboard then did a reboot. When the machine came back up it detected the device and looked for the Microsoft recommended driver. now I get Audio through the DVI to HDMI cable alone to the TV with no other connecters or cables.

Whenever connecting a PC to any kind of monitor that gives audio make sure to uninstall and reinstall compatible drivers, in my case the Realtek was messing up the entire configuration.
