external hardisk is not recognised by computer but it is shown in diskmanagement

hello,
my external hardisk (my passport model-wdbaaa3200abk-nesn) when it is connected to system it is not recognised on computer windows xp .i tried it on other systems but no use. hard disk is showed in diskmanagement but when i right click on it it shows only "help" option and moreover the hardisk is not shown any letter.many,files and pictures are stored in it.please help anyone

Is it seen by BIOS. If so than try data recovery software here is one link http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec there are many others out there decent and free.

Or, run chkdsk O: /f/r from CMD(O is the example drive letter) upon plugging in the drive.

Or, bring up CMD type "Bootrec.exe /ScanOS" to determine if the system recognizes a windows OS, if so it will list them out and where they are.
