Currently building a computer, looking between 3gb nvidia 660 ti or the AMD 7950 3gb. I have already purchased the AMD 8-core FX-8350 processeor, with a Asus Crossfire Formula IV Motherboard. Whats a better a option Nvidia or Amd. I plan to do 3D modelling and lots of gaming which make me look at Nvidia for its physX. Will that matter or should i not bother.

Solution
Radeon HD 7950 is faster by all means.

But has its own cons -

1) More energy requirement.
2) More noise.
3) Crossfire troubles.
4) Physx missing, etc.

At the moment, I would advise you to forget about both of them and go for GTX 760. It trumps both the cards and costs $250 which is cheaper than GTX 660 Ti and equal of HD 7950.

After the release of GTX 760, buying 660 Ti does not make sense.

Also, keep in mind 1 thing, future games might tend to become ATI inclined as PS4 and Xbox One both use ATI cards and developers would most probably keep that in mind.

So you basically have two choices, HD 7950 and GTX 760. Choose whichever you find cheaper.

P.S - When buying a GPU, CPU company does not matter. What matters is the CPU...

+1 - I cant agree more.
just a few more words.

You can get 7870XT for like 30-40$ cheaper than both of those cards and have almost the same performance (slightly less performance ofcourse, but also less noise and less power needs and operates cooler, but it shouldnt be noticeable unless you are benchmarking) In the end 7870xt is on 7950 chipset Tahiti.
I mean if you are on tight budget you can get 7870xt for like 220$ where the others are on 250$ price range.

Good luck.

Okay i appreciate both replys, thanks alot.
Im Most certainly going with the GTX 760.
Just one last question, as im really new to build computers, how well do you think these components will run, in terms of gaming?

Thank you again

Without a problem. :)
All the components are compatible and nothing is causing bottlenecks. Everything should be smooth enough.

If your question is solved, you should pick a solution. It would help others too this way.

It is a decent build. But 8-core does not really help your gaming at all. Since single core performance of amd is really behind Intel. Intel's 3350 are even performing better than 8350fx when it comes to core to core peformance. You should feel the difference on highly threaded operations though. Since you are equipped with 8-cores it should increase the peformance on professional tasks or using multiple applications.
Anyways for gaming its a decent choice and you would enjoy it for couple years

I guess he would benefit a lot with PS 4 and Xbox One ports. Both consoles use 8 Core AMD Jaguar CPU and he should definitely see more performance there. I don't think that CPU would have better per core performance than FX 8350.

@ Josh6517: If the 3D modelling is for money, as opposed to it being a non profit hobby you should check carefully with the software vendors to see what, if any, GPU acceleration your release version uses and make your decision based on that rather than just gaming performance. There's currently little between the GTX760 and HD7950 in gaming performance BTW.
