Hello, all! I'm putting together a budget gaming computer in the very near future and I need some help just checking over my part list before I commit fully. This is my build so far:
PCPartPicker part list/Price breakdown by merchant/Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($117.98 @ Outlet PC)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($84.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($59.40 @ Newegg)
Storage: OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.98 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT LEXA S (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($54.99 @ Microcenter)
Optical Drive: Lite-On ihes112-04 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer ($57.48 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $779.38
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Please respond with any suggestions or advice. Thank you!

There are a lot of tweaks I'd make to that build. Before I get to work, however, some questions:
1: Where are you purchasing? (state required, city ideal, country assumed as USA based on PC Part Picker being the USA version)
2: Is gaming the only planned use?
3: Is an SSD a deal-breaker for you? Because at this price range, you can squeeze in a lot more power with $60.
4: Same deal with the Blu-Ray reader: Is it worth going down to medium rather than high or max settings?

Once I have answers to go with those questions, I'll put together an alternative suggestion for you.

Edit: Also, 5: What is the total budget? I assumed $780, based on the build you have there, but I just want to check.

1. I live in Central New York if that helps
2. Gaming and video streaming and web browsing, yes
3. The SSD I was planning on loading my OS, but it isn't necessary, so yes, use hat $60 somewhere else if you please :D
4. I'm not very experienced in optical drives, so use your best judgement and I mean, I might be playing DVD's and burning CD's, but I haven't really looked into the drives... So could you find one for me that would play dvds and burn cds at a reasonable rate.
5. My total budget is $800 at most, thank you.

Sorry to take so long to respond!

Here's my suggestion (note that it would require you to go to one of the two Microcenters in New York state, and acquire one of their CPU+motherboard deals):

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ Outlet PC)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (Purchased For $59.99)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($72.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.98 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 3GB Video Card ($309.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($17.98 @ Outlet PC)
Total: $810.88
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Thank you for the response! Just a quick question... What are the performance difference between the 8350 and 6300? I know the CPU's with 300's are the vishera technology, but I wasn't sure on the ones between the 8xxx and 6xxx versions. Great build either way, very strong possibility of buying this build. Thanks again!

It's a comparable gap to and i5-3330 and an i5-4670k, as I understand it (though the specs aren't identical, mind you, it's just a similarly sized difference). I admit that Intel CPUs are more my area of expertise, and in fact if it weren't for the fact that the current Microcenter deals make AMD so much cheaper, I would have suggested an Intel (in no small part due to their pound-for-pound superiority in gaming). The Intel options at a similar price were quite limited, however, and none were on par. I primarily upgraded to the 8350 to preclude any risk of bottlenecking the GPU, for reference.
