Hey guys,
i was wondering if you could give me a hand. I have a Samsung G2 portable hard drive. One day i was adding files to it and without thinking i removed the USB from the computer. Now the computer does not recognise it. What can i do now? i want to keep all the files on the hard drive.

Please help.

I dont know that the drive letter is, it says unknown. I tried going into disk managment to initialize it but once again no luck. The error is cyclic redundancy check. What do you think i should do now? I really need the file inside:(

it comes up in device manager, so the driver is known. I have pressed update driver, but it says its the newest. I have also pressed scan for hardware changes, but nothing once again. Do u think i should still uninstall it from device manager? but then do what?
thanks for the qucik responses

So the machine detects the drive in device manager but not in my computer and disk management? I think the last possible solution that you should try some recovery apps. I once used Get Data Back for NTFS, very good one but not free.

yeah exactly... it wont let me intialize it in disk management either. I dont mind spening money if it work...

Before spending money you can do this. Go to Device manager-->select the drive-->right click-->properties-->driver-->uninstall driver. Than in device manager-->scan for new hardware, it will find the drive and install the driver automatically, and than it would be seen on my computer.

Or, try this data recovery software. Read carefully before you use it.

It's free, and you will find tons of other free software out there. Good luck.

Randomly extracting the external hard drive would be really harmful to it, even damaging your hard drive completely. So, you should always remove it safely.

But, now, you could try to see how it shows in Disk management. You could attempt to assign a letter for it in Disk management to activate it: right click it => Right click this drive => Select “Change Drive Letter and Paths”.

If this also could not fix your problem, try to restore your files back at first and then format it to take a chance.
As to data recovery software, you could search on the internet and select a most proper one for yourself.

Here are listed some drive data recovery freeware that could help you a lot:

Otherwise, you have to ask an expert for help and prepare to pay much money for the data recovery service.
