Hi guys,

I am using a Plextor M5S 128GB SSD for quite a while. Recently, I receive a Mushkin Chronos deluxe 120GB SSD. :)

1. Can I raid this two together? With one 128GB and one 120GB.

2. Plextor M5S 128GB SSD - Read(520MB/s) Write(200MB/s) Random Read(71,000) Random Write(51,000)
Mushkin Chronos deluxe 120GB SSD - Read(560MB/s) Write(515MB/s) Random Read and Write(90,000)
What would be the performance after raid?

3. Will raiding like this better than raiding with two Plextor?

Thank you very much for taking your time to read it.

Solution
You won't have any problem if you connect it to the Marvell controller, it's just that the Intel controller is better and will allow your drive to operate at advertised speeds.

Yes, you can. But you will see little if any real world performance boost.

The Read/Write performance of a RAID-0 array is based upon the drive in the array with the slowest Read/Write speeds.
So your Read/Write performance will be based upon your Plextor M5.

The total capacity of a RAID-0 array is based upon the drive in the array with the smallest capacity.
So if you RAID-0 a 128GB drive and a 120GB drive then your RAID array's total capacity (before formatting) will be 240GB (120 x 2).

Hi guys,

I am sorry for my late reply. I have decided to sell one of my SSD. I want to use the one with the higher performance which is the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe. However, Mushkin Chronos Deluxe is SandForce-based. My motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H provides me Marvell controller. Would there be any conflict if I install it inside my pc?

Thank you very much. =]
