I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista (I know, I know) that has a working LCD but no backlight. I replaced the inverter today with a new replacement from Laptop Solutions and the backlights come on for 1-2 seconds then go off again. I can see the LCD working under bright light above, but als no back light. Any ideas?

It's always possible you replaced a bad inverter with another bad inverter. If the inverter isn't the problem, it could be a problem with the LCD cable or the motherboard. The cable may send a signal to the screen but the portion which delivers the DC input to the inverter may not be working - or the power may not be coming from the board to the inverter due to bad power circuits on the board.

Without parts to test with it's hard to troubleshoot these possibilities, but your options are return inverter for replacement and/or get new cable. If neither works, you'll have to decide between an expensive motherboard replacement or a new laptop.
