I do apologize if this is the wrong stop for this but I think this is the closest to what i am having an issue with. I am putting my computer together that I have received help on putting a spec list together for. I have the Hard drive in and attached with the SATA cable and power strip/ribbon thing but the computer is not registering it as there. The hard drive is making sounds so i know its on but its not registering. Any help would be appreciated thank you. If it matters here is the hard drive i purchased.

It shows up under the motherboard but isnt appearing as a drive. I dont know where to see the setting.

If the harddrive doesn't show up in the BIOS it is unlikely to show up in the OS.

If it isn't showing up in the BIOS it is a hardware problem. Either a bad cable, bad sata port, or bad drive.

If it shows up in the BIOS then you need to partition the harddrive and format it. If you are installing the OS then Windows will do that for you on installation.
If it is already installed then you partition through Disk Management.

The only other problem to think about is this.
You bought a SATA 6.0Gb/s drive
But does the motherboard you have support 6gb Sata devices like the hard drive you bought?.

If it does not it is likely the cause of why the drive does not show up in the bios.
It may be the case that the drive it`s self only uses 6gb Sata mode and is not backwards compatible to allow it to be seen by the motherboard.
Or you need to format the drive for it to be seen in windows first if using it as a second attached drive in the system.

So my dad is trying to help figure this out and apparently my motherboard is "smart" and the hard drive is not s.m.a.r.t. compatible. Is there anyway to get it to be compatible or am i sol and need another hard drive?
