Would like to build a system (first time) for CS6 use for my wife.
Will be using Adobe InDesign CS6 for a 300+ page yearbook.
I've read requirements from Adobe, but they seem woefully low, but I don't need to get crazy with a build more suited to gaming either.
Not sure what can create bottlenecks, and am having a hard time finding anything for systems other than gaming applications.

Does not need to be low budget, as I'm interested in her getting a nice smooth running system.

Thanks

RobertDiffin,

For this kind of project that will require photo editing, graphic design, rendering, format conversion, and run multiple tasking, the best quality (precision, freedom from artifacts, proper shadow, multiple light sources, accurate gradients) speed, and reliability is to be had from a Xeon > ECC error correcting RAM > Quadro (CUDA) graphics card (Adobe CS is optimized for CUDA acceleration as are Autodesk applications). As you have intuited, content creation systems are quite different from content consumer systems and as time has gone on, specialization has increased and above a certain image quality or gaming speed expectation, the one type has become gradually less effective for the other use.

For CS6, nVidia CUDA is an advantage. With Adobe CC, it uses both CUDA and OpenCL and I haven't seen any benchies as yet to recommend either way. The bold items are for overclocking and SLI if ya wanna go that way

Here is an idea for a $2,000 Imaging workstation that would be useful also for 2D and 3D CAD modeling animation, and video editing>

BambiBoom PixelDozer Cadaedigrapharific ExtremeSignature VIII ®©™®™©™

1. Xeon E5-1650 6-core 3.2 /3.8GHz $600 (If there is heavy rendering or processing of images, a six core CPU will be an advantage.)

2. ASRock X79 Extreme3 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $190

3. Kingston16GB (2X 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 ECC Unbuffered Server Memory w/TS Intel Model KVR16E11/8I $150.

4. NVIDIA Quadro K2000 VCQK2000-PB 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Workstation Video Card $414

5. SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $100 (OS and Applications)

6. WESTERN DIGITAL 1TB HARD DRIVE SATA 64MB 6 Gb/s WD AV-GP $85 (Files and Backup)

7. LIAN LI PC-A75 Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case $182

8. SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply $75.

9. Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit - OEM $140

10. COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler $35

11. ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM $17.

TOTAL > $1.988.

Options to this would be >

A. Intel Xeon E3-1275 V2 Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Server Processor $355. (If the project/ future work doesn't involve rendering.)

B. ASUS P8B WS LGA 1155 Intel C206 ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server/Workstation Motherboard $229. (If the Xeon E3 is used instead of the E5)

C. Higher specification LGA 2011 motherboard > ASUS P9X79 WS LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 $380

D. Higher specification power supply > SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply $120.

E. Used Quadro 4000 2GB Graphics Card > About $350-400 (Highly recommended) or>
New Quadro K4000 3GB Graphics Card > $800 (Expensive, but excellent, long term choice, especially if there is video editing or 3D animation)

________________________________

This system would have a very good cost / performance ratio and specially oriented towards hardware optimized by Adobe CS6 and go on for use in 2D and 3D CAD modeling and animation .

Cheers,

BambiBoom
