Remember you need to measure from the corner of the actual pixels - bezel differences can make them look different. May also be different aspect ratio.

If your current laptop is a 4:3 or 16:10, it could be smaller due to the difference in aspect ratio.
But unless you go find one in a store or draw out the measurements with a ruler, you can't really know the size.
