GTX760 or GTX770 PSU requirements

I understand that it actually says minimum requirement for the GPU is 600watts, I was wondering if it is possible to run with a 525w PSU or upgrading the PSU is a must.

That depends on the rest of your PC. But more is always better for something thats 600w you'd want at least 650w. No PSU gives its full wattage and if it drops below what you need you could permanently damage your PC.

My PC uses about 350 watts on load, so a 420 watt psu works for me. A good brand PSU will serve your components well, a cheap one will fry 'em eventually.

Historically, my first PC came with a PSU that was cheap and it did kill components one at a time. Hence, I won't use a cheap/unreliable PSU ever again.

You'll want to make sure that you have some headroom and utilization of 80% of your PSU at a minimum.

For SLI, add the two numbers together ..... 170 + 500 = 670 for 760 for example

I got my desktop from dell. The studio XPS9100, I opened the tower up and checked the PSU and it says 525W. I have no idea what the manufacturer is.

Their overclocked test PC is 304 watts on load. Your 525 watt should be fine.

My graphics card "recommends" at least 500 watts, but I'm running a 420 watt PSU. They are afraid of recommending too low.
