Hi, i am currently confused on what am i going to buy first in october, a GPU or a CPU.. i currently have an I3-540 and a GT240 ddr2 1gb.. i am playing games like skyrim, nfsmw, sims 3, dota 2 etc. i want to play games like battlefield 3, crysis 3, farcry 3, max payne 3, gta IV and all other high end games in low-medium settings for now.

my question is, would the intel HD 4600 of haswell be more powerful than the gt240 ddr2 1gb that i have? because if it is more powerful, i will gonna buy first the i5 cpu before the gpu... i am not rushing on the gpu, but if the intel hd 4600 is less powerful than the gt 240, i will buy first the gpu rather than the i5 cpu... i'm talking about the gtx 660 or gtx 750ti

i have done some research, i have an intel dh55pj mobo.. they say that overclocking is better in p55.. i have tried overclocking it but i wasn't good in overclocking locked cpu.

now, will it be better to pair a gtx 660 on my I3-540? i play in 1366x768 and i dont plan on upgrading my monitor for the now.. will my i3 540 bottleneck the gtx 660?

At that resolution, the CPU+GPU combo you mentioned is plenty for speed and eye candy. With your current I3-540, I wouldn't upgrade just yet as it still has plenty of life in it to game.

At that resolution look into an old 5770.
