Hey guys. I plan to upgrade to windows 7 home premium as soon as I have the cash, but right now, all I have is windows xp home premium for my new pc (which I will be building on monday). However, I still need to purchase my gpu and a new monitor, so it will be a while. Thus, I am wondering if I should be worried about driver compatibility, since I have new components and old software. here are my specs:
CPU: i7 4770k
GPU: Gigabyte gtx 760
Mobo: Asus z87 pro
Optical drive: asus dvd burner (blanking on the name)
HDD: Segate barracuda 1tb SATA 3
Boot drive: plextor m5p xtreme 128 gb
PSU: corsair hx750
Memory: corsair vengeance 2 x 4
Case: corsair 300r
If anyone could tell me whether or not my concerns are valid, I'd greatly appreciate it :).

Solution
Highly unlikely. XP by default doesn't support SATA devices, so will have to find the SATA port drivers before XP will even install. Overall, best to get a full. legal copy of Windows 7 or 8.

So this would be a no, at least for my mobo... Do you think I'll at least be able to run with this os for a while, or will i need driver updates immediately? (this is the first time I'm building my own pc)

Thanks for the clarification bro. I'm gonna give Linux a shot, but I'll probably get Windows 7 before to long.

XP 32 runs and installs well on Z87 mainboards. The Intel Chipset drivers just work from the CD. The USB3, sound etc. work from older versions and/or the chipset vendors (the ones from the ASUS installation CD do not work here).

The drivers I could not get to work with XP yet are for the LAN card (Intel I217V) and the RAID/AHCI drivers but I think this is a matter of time. Using the IDE mode which works perfectly fine and a LAN card - ok not ideal but only 10 EUR.

I also have an 'unknown device' left but as I'm not missing anything I have no idea what that could be...maybe a special ASUS function for something?
