Hello tomshardware,
I bought an ASUS Z87 PRO with the nice new 4770k. I added the Noctua NH-D14 (with an Antec Tricool fan to push). Overal I have 10 fans in my case, all running at 2000 rpm.
I went for this setup to achieve some very nice overclocking. But I am VERY disappointed. Here are my results using prime95 for 4 hours each time:
Speed:3,9 ghz
Volts: 1,10
Temp: idle=22c load=50c
Speed:4,3 ghz
Volts: 1,230
Temp: idle=26c load=60c
Speed:4,5 ghz
Volts: 1,357
Temp idle=30 load=85c
To reach 4,6 ghz I need a vcore of more then 1,43 volts! Prime95 will run but the temps go up to 100c with, from what i know, the best aircooling available.
I know that anything above 1,35 is not adviced with aircooling, but did i really just buy a horrible 4770k?
