First this is a question about value combined with performance, not just performance alone so please bear in mind when responding.

I'm purely interested in gaming performance, for everything else my machine performs just fine anyway, I'm running a HD 7950 Boost edition for graphics.

I've currently got a successfully unlocked and stable X2 550 Black Edition which reports as an X4 B50 @ 3.11 Ghz, it's an ageing processor now and I know it's causing some bottlenecks in some games, one in-particular that I like playing is NFS Shift 2 which I have to run at lowered settings.

So question is, if I upgrade to something like an i5 3570k for around £300 including a new motherboard, what kind of % gain can I expect in games like:

Borderlands 2
NFS Shift 2 Unleashed
Skyrim
Dragon Age 2

I'm just torn because though the money isn't a problem, I don't want to spend it to see no noticeable difference bearing in mind I game at 1080p with mostly maxxed settings already (shift 2 being a notable exception and I love that game) - it's enough money to put away for a few months and buy a PS4 with too!

Thanks in advance

i'm positive skyrim will get quite the leap because it depends alot on the CPU "a GTS450 can run the game at high settings in 1080P with 60FPS" anyway i'd say take the 2500K its cheaper and overclock pretty darn well, although its a bit of a bottleneck even at 5Ghz for huge CPU dependent games like WoW "a 3570K was doing worse for reference"

You will see a huge boost in games(almost 30-40%) and in skyrim you might see more than 50% of an improvement.....So go ahead and grab the 3570k..
