Upgrading Graphics Card

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card within the next couple of days. As it stands my setup looks like this:

Processor: Intel i5 3570k
Motherboard: H61MA-D2V
Memory: 8GB Ram DDR3
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 650

I'm looking at getting either the GeForce 660 Ti or the 670 so I guess my first question is are they both compatible with my setup?

I mainly play games like BF3 (BF4 when its released), COD4, Total war games (will play Rome 2 when released), Skyrim etc.

So I want to be able to play all these games on max settings if possible, and I will want to be able to play games released within the next couple of years too.

Can anyone help me out on which one to go for? Or even another card around the same price range?

Finally, I've noticed there seems to be lots of different types of each card, for example the 660 Ti has loads of different prices on Amazon.co.uk. These are the two I was looking at:

Do they seem like the right thing? Sorry for being such an idiot but I really don't know much about computers (because of that I doubt I will be interested in overclocking or anything like that because I don't even know what that is never mind how to do it).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If those are your two options, get the GTX 670 as stated. If you have a look at AMD cards though, the HD7970 should probably cost similar as well. It performs close to the GTX 670 but have larger overclocking headroom and should come with free games as well.

On a side note, what's your psu model?

In regards to the psu model (I'm assuming thats power supply?) I don't know how to find that out but it says on the side of the power supply RS-500-PCAP-I3 if that helps?

A quick google search shows it's probably the Cooler Master extreme unit. I seriously recommend you replace it first with a better unit. You don't have to spend a ton. Just get something like SeaSonic S12II 520W or Corsair CX 500W or XFX Core Edition 550W

And if getting the new psu hurts your budget for the GTX 670, you'll have to settle for a GTX 760 (performs between GTX 660ti and GTX 670). It's still a good card though

I'll consider the 760. I think the 770 is a little outside my budget unless you can give me a very good reason as to why its worth the extra money.



Thanks for the advice. I assume you think the new psu is pretty essential? I will probably purchase one because I don't want to fry my computer haha.

Now I have a dilemma, do I stretch my budget for the new psu and get the 670, or do I settle for the 760. Decisions decisions...
