Is it possible to isolate fans to see which one is the loudest?

Basically right now I find my pc to be too loud for my liking. What I would like to do is isolate between case/cpu/gpu fans to see which one is making the most noise. Is that even possible? The main problem is obviously the cpu. I can't not mount the heatsink and the pc won't turn on with no cpu thus the heatsink fan would always have to be on. Is there a way to not have the heatsink fan running and not ruin the cpu or some other way I can do this?

What do you mean pull the fans from the motherboard?

One of these might work:

Mechanics stethoscope, used for isolating engine noises.
$5 at Northern Tool

Make a tube out of rolled up paper or cardboard. Put one end near the fan and the other to your ear.
Or... use a program like speedfan to measure the rpm of each fan. The highest speed will be the noisiest fan. Usually anything under 1000 rpm will be quiet.

Some fans make more noise than others on the same rpm though
