My current CPU is a phenom x4 be 3.4ghz with gtx 660 twin frozr 2gb

I'm planning on upgrading to an intel CPU within the next two weeks this also means i have too buy an intel motherboard. This upgrade is ideally aimed at gaming. My budget is between £200 - 300. Advice is greatly appreciated

We won't be able to reuse the mobo then. I'd suggest this combo :

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£169.60 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD55 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (£93.62 @ Ebuyer)
Total: £263.22
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Grab a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for around 25 GPB also and you'll be able to push this CPU to 4.5ghz easily: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2

MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr III 2gb
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE
Seagate Barracuda 500gb hardive 7200rpm 16mb
Corsair 750w psu
ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard
Windows 8 Pro 64Bit
8gb ripjaws ram

If SLI is not needed then a MSI Z77A_g43 would be sufficient:

Haswell CPUs overclock really bad, so lets put it off our list of considerations.
