Will next gen make pc step their game up?

So since next gen is only a couple of months away, it constantly worries me that when they come out, many of our rigs will be left in the dust.

Though this is unlikely it is still a possibility. For example, killzone 4 easily looks as good as games like crysis 3, and so does Titanfall, both are flagship titles of each console.

But every time I think of this, I go back to the idea that xbox one was running on pc dev kits, which included extremely high end Nvidia cards.

And then comes the idea of consoles being optimized for gaming. Have you seen halo 4 or Last of Us, and those are running on 7 year old tech. Imagine what the devs can do with the new hardware specs of next gen(ex: 16x the ram).

tldr version: Will high end pc's now struggle once consoels come out, or maybe a year from now?

Don't...

No, PC will not struggle, the next gen consoles you have to remember are very low priced (compared to a gaming PC) and therefor cannot have top of the line components. so the bottom line is PC will never struggle to a console, devs will develop games to the consoles specifications which looks like a high mid ranged graphics card and a 8 core cpu, these specs are very reasonable for a computer. the computers will also have prettier looking graphics compared to consoles and have a wider range of purposes. for example web browsing, document editing, and video editing. so, no the PC has a strong hold on the gaming market for a few reasons,

A) specs are not that hard to keep up with
B) PCs play games better, higher frame rates, better graphics
C) PCs are mutli purposed and therefor a better bang for your buck, you could buy a pc that doesnt play any video games, or put the same amount of money that a next gen console would cost into upgrades for that pc you already need for everyday use and have yourself a gaming machine that is much stronger than a next gen console.

I myself have a gaming computer, and a ps3, (which i know is not next gen) but i will not be buying a next gen console, because i could put the same cost of that console into upgrades, future proofing my pc, which im sure is how lots of other people think too.

Hope I made sense, let me know what you think! :)

Doubtfull.
Long ago it was possible, but nowdays, if a console game is porte to the PC, and it has very poor grapics and optimization, you are basicly killing your company in the PC sector. Not long ago EA reported that their sales of Crysis 3 and dead space 3 were "underperfoming".

Well what did they expect? People talk and sooner or later everyone gets the messege. Garbage in - Garbage out.
