I recently bought a Radeon 4890 used for my computer, because from what i can tell, it is faster than my GTS 450. Even in tests i ran, it was a decent upgrade. When i play games however, i get as bad or worse performance, and neither the GPU or CPU is going abvet 50% load. I have no clue why World of Warcraft is lagging out with the GPU at 40% load. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Solution

There is your problem. Your CPU is bottlenecking your 4890

Make sure you have the latest drivers for the card installed and don't worry too much about WoW (except for your account), it's highly processor dependant and there's alot of hacking going on at the moment which means more logins and moar lagz.

I have a dell 720
Intel Core2 Quad q6600 @ 2.4
6Gb DDR2 ram
XFX Radeon 4890

The problem i have is that none of my components are even close to maxing out (according to msi afterburner and windows resource monitors) and i do have the latest catalyst driver for my card. Its also not like i am playing the game with the settings too high, 1680x1050 resolution and High preset and i start lagging.

I would kinda have to replace everything but the HDD and graphics card, and i have a very limited budget ($300-400). Also in the US. I am looking at a pentium g2120, would that be enough to not limit the card?
