Sata 2 or 3 Cables

I guess what I'm asking is are all SATA cables compatible with SATA slots? I have an ASUS-Z87 MB and while I was doing my first build, I realized I was missing a SATA cable for my SSD, if they're all compatible I should get a SATA III right?

All SATA drives, cables and connectors are backward and forward compatible with each other. And yes you need a SATA3 cable to connect your ssd to your motherboard to ensure maximum transferring speed ( not needed with HDDs, only SSDs ).
