Hello.

I have a very old problem, that i hope, someone can help me with.

I own a 1 year old self build desktop pc, and my dad owns a 1½ year old laptop from Acer. We have a connection from a mobile company, where we get our connection, via a cellphone outlet. It's a 40/10 megabit connection. We have a problem. My dad likes streaming, and I like gaming. He can't stream movies or visit a webside, when I'm gaming, browsing or just have my desktop turned on, so we takes turns to stream and game. He can stream if I turn off my desktop. We've been living with that for over a year now, and my dad wants to do something about it. So he got a contract from a different cellphone company, where he got a 60/20 mbit connection, again via cellphone outlet, so I got the old 40/20 megabit for myself. But we still have a problem. My dads laptop STILL doesn't work, when I've got mine turned on. I have no clue, why and how, but now my dad's accusing me for sucking/stealing his wifi connection, even though i got rid of my usb wifi adapter, running on cable to the router, and have NO connection to my dads router.

Can somebody please explain what I could do in this situation? Is it a problem with our cables inside our walls? Or can't the cellphone companys split the connection in our house, even though they said they could?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Christoffer K. Pedersen

install netlimiter 3.

use it and let a limit to the speed your computer can use. this way he should be able to connect

Thanks for the tip, gonna try it. :)
But I still don't understand, why it can be possible.
Why my pc can disturb the signal to a router I have NO connection to.

The thing is, that it's ONLY when I have my desktop turned on, my dads download speed is, basically zero. He have the download speed, he's paying for, when he's alone in the house, but as soon as my desktop comes to live, his laptop says no to internet. The phones in the house works fine, and actually, my moms pc haven't had a problem with the internet, I forgot to mention that. It's really weird.

I can't.. I can't access it, since it's encrypted and only our company can eddit settings. But the password is freaking insane. Plus we live in a lonely area, not so many people who look like they could hack our network (They are old), and our network is 2 weeks old.

Do you know, if it is possible, and I know it sounds crazy, but my dad suggested it, that a part in my pc could "suck/steal" wifi signals?

Thanks for the good help btw :)

This is the first time I've read something like this, honestly.... I don't know what causes it. Long time ago, I've researched how to hack wifi from my neighbors. It said that it's nearly impossible. hahaha Don't judge me, I was just assigned far away from home and didn't have any internet access, and I was home alone for 6 months. hahaha

ANyway, I don't know bro... I have some experience in networking, but this is just insane........... ..hehe

actually there not as secure as you think. wep for example continuously broadcasts the encryption key wpa is a lot more complex and cannot be bruteforced like wep.

in other words go for wpa2 as most people wont even be able to find the wep key even though its simple to get hold off (was playing with it on my network, mac filtering is useless because you can change your mac yourself)
