so heres the skinny. i have an old rig......very old

e6600 2.4 core 2 duo
4 gigs (3 useable) of slow arse ram
a broke arse 9800 gt
vomit inducing vista 32.....yeh 32

iv been able to play the latest games like bf3 shogun 2 surprisingly halfway decently. although shogun turns into a slideshow. planetside 2 forget it, unplayable.

here is what iv thrown together on magic micro. due to money constraints, reccomending other hardware is out of the question, so dont turn this into a "whats better thread"

ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+, Onboard Video,Sound, GB LAN
AMD FX-6350 Piledriver (Vishera) 3.9GHz (Six Core) 32nm, AM3+ 8MB Cache
8GB (2x4GB) PC12800 DDR3 1600 Dual Channel (super talent)
GeForce GTX 650 1GB PCI EXpress 16X Dual head, HDMI- (done my homework, seen and heard great things for a budget card, and can upgrade whenever)
1000.0 GB Western Digital Green SATA3 6GB/s 64m cache
Antec Basiq 500w Extra Quiet ATX Power Supply w/ 6pin PCI-E
and obviously win 7 64

i also want to mention i play alot of cpu intensive games ala shogun 2 and upcoming rome 2....so i wanted a much better cpu

also my monitor is only 1280x1024 so gpu isnt a huge deal at the moment but def plan on upgrading to at least a 660

im going amd for price, 6 cores will future proof gaming for awhile etc

my question is this.....how drastic a difference will i see coming from my old beat up hoopdey?

Dear user You will see many differences with your new upgrade its worth every penny and you can do a lot of things according to your "grandpa" machine congrats and be well dude.

If possible you should try and swap out the GTX 650 for an HD 7790. Particularly this one... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127726

It's very cheap, it comes with 3 really awesome games, and it also comes with a $25 rebate. I think you would benefit from the AMD card more. Also if you're a new customer on newegg and you buy that graphics card today you can save an extra $10 just enter promo code "NEWCUSTOMER06" at checkout.

Watch this video HD 7790 vs GTX 650 ti.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCoctop9jkA

The GTX 650 ti is a lot better than the GTX 650. And you can see in the video that the HD 7790 outperforms the 650 ti. If all you can get is a GTX 650 and you're getting a really good deal then stick with that. It's still a nice upgrade from your previous card. Otherwise, if you can get something better for about the same price then why not do that?

The new GTX 760 is a huge value at US $250. I'm assuming you are not in the US as we don't say arse too much ;)

It may be out of your price range. But you get amazing performance for the price with it.

The AMD 7xxx series do have issues with micro stuttering and frame latency but it's mostly when they are run in Crossfire. AMD says they have a driver fix coming at the end of next month but the issues have been known for over a year and they are not fixed yet so I will believe it when I see it.

Yeah we try to keep it pretty family friendly but saying 'ass' generally does not get the mods too upset. :vip:

If it did we would have to ban some mods! lol
