Currently I have a single Radeon 6850, overclocked, and I'm planning on upgrading to a GTX 760/770 maybe 780. Or should I wait for the newest AMD cards (8000 series)? I have a 460W stock PSU, I can upgrade the PSU IF needed that's no problem. Apparently the GTX 760 only uses 170W at full load which is less than my current card, the 6850. Any thoughts? Thanks !

Hi - You can probably run a gtx760 with that current PSU, but if you upgrade to 770/780
then you will need to upgrade the PSU. It is highly unlikely that PSU has anywhere near the
+12v rail/amps necessary for those cards. The 670 requires a few more(30 vs 25) +12v amps than the
6850, so a PSU upgrade is advisable even with that card.
Alright thanks now I understand the amperage, however, this is besides the fact but I just found out my motherboard does not support PCI-e 3.0, only 2.0/2.1 so I'm not sure if I'll be able to even run any of these cards, which sucks as I do not want to replace anything or buy/build a new PC. I always thought I had 3.0, now I'm just stumped on this. : /
Hi again - Good news PCI-E 3.0 cards will run in 2.0 slots. Oh, better news -
no loss in performance!
Alright! That's so great to hear! So let's say I get the GTX 760, will I be able to upgrade to the 800 series when it comes out? Cause 3.0 will always support 2.0 right? Also, on the product page it mentions "GeForce GTX 670 supports PCI Express 3.0. The Intel X79/SNB-E PCI Express 2.0 platform is
only currently supported up to 5GT/s (PCIE 2.0) bus speeds even though some motherboard manufacturers have enabled higher 8GT/s speeds."
So am I good or not? I trust you all but Nvidia doesn't seem to say that! errr : / And will PCI 2.0 will be okay for future upgrades or no?
