Hi

i have a stupid question---just opened up my new dell 8700 after asking the tech at dell whether it could accommodate 2 video cards for a total of 6 monitors and he said yes. The slot that houses the radeon 7570 has a dvi, hdmi and i guess one on board hdmi for 3 there, the 2 adjacent pci slots have very short female adaptors mounted to the chasis, much shorter than the one the radeon card has

am i missing something here or can this machine somehow have mounted another video card that can handle another 3 monitors?

Thanks for any assistance here

Ah I see now, if you manage to get a hold of one of those PCI extenders you can run multiple gpus off of the pci e x16 slot (The one the cards in) and more off of the pcie x1slot (Small one) to get up to 6 monitors.
Well the tech guy from dell may have been mistaken, Those short slots are PCix1 slots, which graphics cards dont connect to. As for the 3 onboard you dont use gpu and onboard graphics at the same time, it wont work. So you are looking at 2 monitors at most, why you would even need 6 is beyond me... you can get another card in there with one of these http://www.camera2000.com/en/pci-e-1x-riser-pci-express-card-extender-cable-adapter.html it extends a pcix1 to pci x16. Not the greatest plan but it might work.

Thanks but i think i will loose true digital/resolution and since the system isnt designed for that probably heat issues also,,, even tech at dell said it was not a more than one card system,, in short they gave me false info,, system is going back and i will assemble a home build like i should have done from the beginning thank you dell for not even knowing youre on product line!!!

ps according to dell (already sounding funny) if i make sure that under bios options that multi display is enabled i can run the hdmi/gpu on the mother board and get a 3rd monitor with 2 from this card
