Hi, all. Never posted here before but I'm looking for some advice and I know there are some experts around these parts. In terms of computer hardware, I've been out of the loop for about a decade, so forgive me if my questions come across as asinine, I have tried to do some independent research but talking to people about my individual needs is obviously best.

I'm going to be basing a build around the A10-6800K with the possibility of adding discrete graphics in the form of a 6670 at a later date. The GPU isn't definite, but I would like to keep the option open anyway since they're cheap. The system will be used for pretty standard tasks such as browsing, streaming HD video, and some very light 2D graphics work. But also gaming. Mostly just indie games, I may want to play Skyrim at some point. If something more demanding comes up I wouldn't mind sacrificing some detail, I'm primarily a console gamer these days so I can live with that. All that really matters is that the more demanding games run at a minimum of 720p, and at a somewhat stable frame rate. Things like 2D indie games, and some older 3D titles from GOG, I would expect to run pretty much flawlessly.

The motherboard must have at least one HDMI output as I will be using a TV as my main display. Options for both ATX and mATX would be nice, but by no means essential. In terms of memory, I want 8 GB at at least 1866 MHz as I am going to be gaming, so the motherboard needs to support that. Is there anything else I should be looking out for when it comes it memory? Do brands make any difference at all? Corsair and Crucial seem to be popular choices.

With the above in mind, would it be a good idea to spend the extra ~£50 on a 6670? Would it really make a difference for my use? Does CrossFireX even work very well?

My final concern is power. More specifically, I have no idea how much this is all going to use. I've seen builds of a similar nature using all kinds of different power supplies so this is a little confusing for me. I don't want to find myself short on power, and I definitely don't want my computer exploding.

These are the main areas I need help with, any other advice would be most welcome. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Crossfire with an APU doesn't really get great results. It is better to invest in fast RAM.

As far as a PSU goes, You could use as little as a 300w unit safely. I would go for the Antec VP-450. It is a high quality unit for cheap and will allow you to crossfire in the future no problem.

Thanks. So if I skipped the discrete GPU entirely, do you think 8 GB at 1866 MHz would do the trick or would you go even higher? 16 GB at 2133 MHz isn't really an option, but 8 GB is. Of course, I would need a motherboard that supports those speeds.

That's pretty much what I was hoping you would say.

Anything I need to watch out for when buying a motherboard? Is it just a case of buying one with the right socket? Any other potential compatibility issues with regards to the CPU?

Thank you for your help.
