Hello,

The usb connector from my 1TB Buffalo external hard drive broke, so I decided to simply change the enclosure in hopes of still accessing the files. Was able to do that today, but when connecting again to my laptop (Windows Vista) the drive is completely empty. Any insight on this will be much appreciated, as I've got very important files on the drive (this is my back-up drive).

Thanks a lot.

How did you break the hard drive connector, dropping it?
Empty drive often could be caused by three possible reasons, such as hidden files, virus infection and damaged drive issue.

So, you could try to figure out your problems like this:

1. Set your computer to show all the hidden files: Start => Run => Type in “control folders” and press “OK” =>Click “View” and hook “Show hidden files and folders”=> Press “OK”.

2. Do antivirus scan on your drive to see whether it is virus infected.
Nowadays, some viruses also would hide the files and make them invisible.

3. Run your Windows Error-checking tool to test it: Right Click you drive in My Computer > Properties > Tools > Check Now > Mark “Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan...

Note: If your drive is really damaged, in order to get back your data, you could take chances with some drive data recovery freeware available online.

In my experiences, there are may drive data recovery freeware that could work far more efficiently than some paid ones: http://geeksdo.com/freeware/data-recovery.html
