Motherboard not explaining CPU temp?

Hi guys, I just got done replacing my CPU and motherboard.

I installed a i5-4670k onto an Asus Z87-pro with a hyper 212 evo CPU cooler.

The UEFI bios says my CPU temperature is at 35c, but the temperature reader on the actual motherboard at first said "D7", and now it says "A2".

I'm a little worried because there was a tiny amount of smoke from either the optical drive or the HDD (they're older parts) when I first started it, but it hasn't done that at all from the start. I figured it'd be best not to turn it on...

I'm not exactly sure what to do here. Help??

Thanks!!

I decided to make sure everything was plugged in correctly and decided to try a second boot. Everything worked like a charm, no smoke, MBO is reading everything (besides the "A2" still showing on the motherboard CPU temp monitor) but I heard that is common on asus boards with the hyper 212 evo cooler?

Still that initial bit of smoke freaked me out and I don't know where to continue from here or if its even safe. Does anyone have any advice?

That's the HEX POST code reader, it's reading POST codes as it should. It does not display the temperature on these boards.
