So can you see activity on the screen? If so then your game (if you downloaded and installed it) may be corrupt. Unfortunately you may have to install your game again. What exactly happens when you try to play a game?

I don't think so, Is it a cable or is it an adapter, if it is a cable then it should work, if it is an adapter then it may not be playing games because it doesn't support the resolution of the game etc. Make sure that it is plugged into the correct VGA header, some graphics card have a header for a cable and another header for an adapter.

Ok, then this may be the reason. If you have another header (port) on your GPU for the vga adapter to go in then put it in there. I know I had a similar problem with a DVI to VGA cable. Usually it does depend on the build quality of the actual adapter, I had two different adapters one could perform to my monitors native resolution (1920 x 1080) but my other adapter couldn't
