Hi , i have an MSI (Micro Star) MS-7364 (P4M900-X) Motherboard (crucial scan won't recognize model of my PC) :

Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 420 @1.6GHz
RAM : 512 Mb

I try to add another 512 memory stick and when i start the PC is running but it won't boot ! I didn't hear any *beep* or anything . The RAM stick is PC3200U 400Mhz , the old stick is PC2-4300 . What is wrong ? or What should i do ? Should i set frequency or anything because inside my PC the slots is two colors orange and purple .

In order for two different RAM sticks to work, they must at least be the same standard, and preferrably the same brand. You need to get at least a new stick that is PC2-4300 in order for it to work with the old stick.

I see that if i put the new stick (PC3200U) and remove the old one it's the same thing (won't boot) .

I have only two slots : orange & purple , they are different orange is 1.8V (where i can put only the old stick) and purple 2.5V (where i can put the new stick ).

Your motherboard is one of those weird ones that accepts both DDR2 and DDR memory. The DIMMslot closest to the CPU is for DDR2 ram only, and the other slot is for DDR ram only. There is nothing in the manual about being able to use them both at the same time. I think that you have to choose which standard to use. If you use the DDR2 standard it will accept up to a 2GB stick of ram. If you use the DDR slot, the maximum is 1 GB. YOU CAN NOT USE BOTH TO GET 3 GB of RAM! It is an Either /or situation.

To get 1GB of ram, total, get either a 1 GB DDR2 or a 1GB DDR stick and put it in the appropriate slot.

I do agree with clarkjd, your system supports both DDR2 and DDR memory. They cannot be used together. The new memory PC3200 is a DDR if it doesn't say like PC2-3200. Moreover, with DDR you can go upto 1GB and with DDR2 you can go upto 2GB. Hence, I'd recommend 2GB DDR2 over 1GB DDR memory.

RMA the new memory and get the DDR2 memory from the same vendor if he has or check this website for memory : http://www.memorystock.com/memory/MicrostarIntMSIMicroStarMS7364P4M900XMotherboard.html

Cheers, mate!!

I put the new memory DDR (PC3200) in the correct slot (2nd) and removed the old memory from 1st slot , and pc still won't boot ! What should i do ? Should i set something in bios ?

At any point did you put BOTH ram sticks in the slots and try to boot? If so, it is possible that one or both of the sticks has been fried. If possible, can you try them in another PC?
