NO!!!! DON'T!!!

AM3+ CPU's like the FX series will not work with AM3 mobos. AM3 CPUS like the phenom II series will work in AM3+ MOBOs. the socket on the MOBO is backwards compatible but the cpus are not.

Yes I apologize the AM3 motherboard only supports Phenom series and Athlon series.

However you could get a better motherboard than the one you have now.

You shouldn't have to re install windows OS as that will be on your HDD or SDD.

He only has to reinstall if its an OEM system. If he built it and bought windows seven he has the rights to switch his MOBO anytime he wants.
