What is the safest distance my graphics card can be from my side intake fan?

I want to buy a MSI 7870 to replace my exisitng graphics card but when fitted it will sit 1cm from my side intake fan. Is this too close?

As long as it isn't touching then it isn't a problem. The problem is that your air flow in your case will be somewhat effected by your GPU. It will keep your GPU nice a cool but if it is your only intake fan the you have a problem. However if it isn't your only intake fan then you will be fine. In fact you may even be quite happy it will certainly keep your GPU cool.

Thanks I thought it may affect the air flow. I do have another intake fan but its pretty poor and cools the Hard drive bays. Looks like ill have to get the Asus 7850, but I was trying to give the new card as much future gaming life as possible (at least 3 yrs) before I get a new rig.
