PC Not Coming On After Power Cut.

Hello,

Someone plugged in a fan they had brought in from home, and when plugging it in they tripped a switch in the fuse box, which resulted in a small corener of the office losing power. I flicked the switch back on and power was restored.

However, one of the machines isn't coming back on. The machine seems to power up. The fans starts whirring, the power light comes on and the HDD Activity Light flashes away. The black screen of the monitor lightens slightly, and pops up the "Auto Adjust Image" message, but nothing else happens.

So far I've listened for a beep code but I can't hear anything. I've tested the machine with a monitor which i've already proven to work (and is the same model as the monitor it generally uses), but it produced the same results. And i've tried resetting the RAM just to be sure.

I can't see any blown capacitors either.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this machine won't come on properly?

Thanks,

Matt.

Hey,

I've just tried pinging the machine when it's turned on, and I can. I then remembered that it has VNC software installed, so I tried connection to that and I can. So I can actually use the machine via VNC even though nothing is displaying.

I suspect then that the onboard graphics have been damaged. Is there a relatively simple way to fix this, or is it worth taking out the HDD and placing in a new machine?

Is there not usually a Beep code for Graphics failures?

Thanks,

Matt.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I imagine that would have worked perfectly, but I had a spare PC of the same model lying around and didn't have a spare graphics card, so it was cost effective to just swap out the HDD.

Thanks for all your help though! :)
