better gpu for graphics and animation

Solution
depends what app your using. both nvidia and amd have solutions for gpu rendering in autodesk. although the nvidia 1 ships with it, the amd 1 has to be installed after.
currently cuda has better support but things are slowly changing for opencl. so if your wanting results now go cuda if your willing to try different opencl plugins to get slightly better per watt performance go amd.

heres the sticker for me. i have been learning 3dsmax and still find that the cpu is the best for rendering on my system. even though its getting long in the tooth, it supports the opencl on the 5870 but the results are pretty close when i use the cpu to render rather than the gpu

its been over 3 years since dx11 arrived with the promise of gpu rendering for both platforms but even today very few applications take advantage of it so in most cases is actually better to have a really grunty cpu
