Hey guys,

I was in goodwill on saturday and picked up three Xeon dual core 5120 processors for $1 total. How could I pass that up?

So the question now lies in, what do i do with this things? I have minimal knowledge in networking(the reason i purchased them) and i have been actively trying to learn as much as i can, however with a Phenom II X4 965 BE, and 8gb of ram, i feel like i am limited on the uses.

I've wanted to build out a firewall server, so i've been playing around with PFsense to get a feeling for it.

What else can i use to either increase security or even just learn to build and use?

Also would you guys recommend me using a Mobo that had a dual processors? or split each processor up into its own unit? My idea was running 1 processor on a single machine(for firewall), and then bundling both of the other processors together to create a small virtualized machine.

I am open to all suggestions/ideas!!

Nice bargain, hopefully they all work. First, I'd buy an inexpensive board to test the three of them. Make sure the RAM you purchase is compatible with the MB, I'm not sure if DDR2 ECC is required.
