Processor (i5 or i7)

Solution
I still don't think you require i7, I am a hardcore Matlab user too but I am using an i5 and everything works fine for me. If you have the extra cash and don't mind spending another $100 then by all means go for the i7 and not regret later on.

Thanks for your reply, my work is in the perceptual image retrieval field, but I don’t know really how much core i7 will be useful for me!... Is it true that core i7 is useful for statistical programming, but core i5 is useful for working in high speed?

Thank you so much. In your opinion, cache 3 MB is sufficient for most tasks in MATLAB?
Please could you do me a favor and express your opinion about the following system configuration?

Oh, my bad, I thought you were talking about desktop, for laptops, I think you should go with the i7 for Matlab usage. But overall the system is good for work.
