Do I need to install software for my motherboard?

It was a very long time (3 years in fact) since I did my last build and I seriously cannot remember if I installed the software from the disc that came with my motherboard. I am getting the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z tomorrow and I am just curious whether I can just 'plug and play' or if I have to install it.

Merci

You can install what came with the DVD but chances are good all the goodies are already out of date, best bet is to download the latest Drivers from the Asus web site so you can get all the performance you paid for out of your mobo

Ok thanks, quite handy really as I FORGOT to install my DVD drive in my rig, LOL :S

Safest bet is to install all the stuff on the MoBo driver CD as some of these, especially with "enthusiast" boards may be "unique" in that they either contain "free" software / utilities or key codes that only work with the copy on the CD. Then ya can go and upgrade them with latest versions from web site. Also .... lack of an ethernet driver (one will eb on MoBo CD) can sometimes be problematic getting online to dowblaod and install all of the others.

Careful with that, because some choices are just the update/patch or hotfix. The base driver is not always with the download. Compare file sizes before hand. Most of the important stuff is outdated on the disk that comes in the box, and the site has the entire file included with the latest release, but I have always have had to use both on my mobo's to be complete & current. The asus site is very good resource.:)
