Upgradeable Budget PC - probably AMD

Hi, my current old PC is on the fritz and I may have killed the mobo trying to repair it. What I would like to do is build a budget PC that can play indie games, and run Adobe programs. In the future I would like it to be able to play current games.
Basically I am hoping that I can avoid buying a graphics card and get maybe 1 4gb stick of ram. Then I can add stuff in as I want.

I have a case from my old PC, and an old SATA HDD.

I was originally thinking of getting the Intel I5, but it looks like AMD is a lot cheaper. Now I am thinking of the AMD FX 6300. Is this a good choice for my needs? If so what motherboard should I get? I wanted to get something with on-board graphics that will run indie games/maybe TF2, has HDMI, and will allow me to overclock later (even though I have no idea how to do this atm).

What watt PSU would be required (keeping in mind an upgrade later on)? I was thinking of going with Corsair. 500W okay?

Will this run basic games - like Fez, maybe TF2 at most? Can I run this to my HDTV (currently a crappy 720p, but 1080p later)?

Any other feedback or suggestions you have would be great. Keep in mind I am trying to spend as little as possible at the moment, but I also don't want to buy things twice (ie. upgrading to a graphics card and needing a new PSU).

PS: I do have a small graphics card on my old PC that still works, but it has no HDMI. If using this cuts the mobo cost significantly, I assume I can just get a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Solution
Just curious on how's your flexible budget? FX6300 would be a good choice, but most AM3+ boards doesn't have an on-board GPU, or only has a horrible one ( AMD HD3000 on some AM3+ boards with 760g chipset ).

I was originally looking at $400, getting the i5 instead, but I was hoping to bring it down and AMD seemed to be a lot cheaper. If the onboard GPU isn't available, I think I can use my current card until I upgrade. My current card is pretty bad, but I think it should be okay for what I need.

Do you have suggestions for a good motherboard around $100? Also, I just read that AMD and Nvidia don't work well together. Is that true, and what would this mean for my future upgrade? Nvidia seems like a top brand, and I would have probably gotten one of their cards.

I could wait to afford the i5, but for what I currently need it doesn't seem worth the price. Maybe I need a different AMD? I am getting pretty confused.
