Headphone mic won't work?

I have a pair of headphones with a mic but it only has 1 cord when I plug it in the headphone jack the headphones work but not the mic

And when I plug it into the microphone jack the headphones won't work but the mic will what I'm I doing wrong lol

This is a new type of plug that allows you to use both headphones and microphone using only one jack.(notice it has an extra ring) this is used by most smartphones these days, but very few pc's support it. You need to buy one of these: http://www.razerzone.com/store/audio-mic-splitter-adapter-for-the-razer-electra . it is a bit pricey but it is a reliable brand and is the only good one i could find.

Note: I found this one as well :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA07Y02A5359 but i personally wouldnt buy it as it is not a known brand name meaning it is likely low quality and might not last.
