Weird Internet Speed Problem

Hi,

I have a 1 MBps(Confirmed its MB not Mb) connection and my problem is this. All other sites apart from youtube takes ages to load. Youtube videos stream without any buffering. Other websites load extremely slow(not opening/streaming youtube videos at the same time) and downloads speeds are 5-8 Kbps.

Connection is an unlimited connection. I have rebooted my system twice already. Happened just today and I have no idea whats affecting what. Have tried IE, Firefox and Opera but only youtube works.

Update: Whoa! Connection just got back to normal right after posting this query. Look's like "Tom" scared the **** out of my connection with his "Hardware" LOL:pt1cable:

Anyways, I would still like to know what was wrong if anyone got an idea in case it happens again.

Probably your ISP having a tune up or repair.

Would that go on for a whole day? Problem was resolved at 4AM.

Okay it can't be a 1MBps connection because it doesn't exist, ISP connections are determined in BITS per second ONLY (even the Google 1Gb Fiber is still BIT). You can have a 8Mbps (it takes 8 BITS to make 1 BYTE, so 8Mb/8 = 1MB) connection, but that would be 'weird' as any ISP's 'Product Page' shows increments of 5/10 (1Mb, 5Mb, 10Mb, 20Mb, 25Mb, etc.).

That said a 1Mb connection (which I am on) was made for Webpages, not Multimedia as you need it to be. For 2005 forward type internet expectations your expressing, normally you need at LEAST a 10Mb connection, normally CableTVs 25Mb, or DSLs now touted 100Mb connection for your computer, your ipad, the kids Xbox, etc. all to work on it as 'expected'.

I assumed 1MBps coz I saw "1MB"(not MBps) as the listed connection speed in my account. But all is good now. videos are streaming smoothly without buffering now.

Depends on the degree of tuning/repairing.
