Hello and thank you for reading my problem. So recently Ive been having problems with my computer. Ive been getting the BSOD most of the time so I figured it would be good to scan for malware. Most of the programs either didnt work or crashed into the blue screen before it could even finished. So then I decided to run chkdsk. So everything went well for a while until it froze on me at stage 5 on 26%. I left it there for 9 hours since the last time i saw it and it did not move one bit. Im sure it froze because the hard drive light was not flashing (correct me if im wrong). So then I had the hardest decision to turn off the computer and try again or just give up. worst mistake ever lol. I tried loading into safemode but now it wont even load into safemode. In total my computer has probably spent 2 days or so trying to run chkdsk. I did some bad mistakes on this and I dont know what to do at this point. If you have any help you can give me I would be most grateful. Thank you and have a nice day :)

Side Notes:
* Im sure i have no CD Boot disk
* Im running it again as im typing this post (hoping it would fix itself which I doubt it)
* Hardly or little computer experience
* Buying a new computer would be last option if nothing else can be done

You haven't provided the age of the computer or it's relevant specifications, such as hard drive type (file system) or the OS you are are running.

It sounds like you have a hard drive that was on the edge of failure or you had many virus/malware on your computer to begin with. An external anti-virus disc would have been very useful for this.

If you want to be certain it is a hardware problem, download something like an Ubuntu live CD and see if it can run an OS without crashing. If you have nothing on there that is critical to keep, just format the hard drive and install an OS.

thx for the reply mate. Im making a boot cd right now so hopefully everything goes well. Ima post something if anything goes wrong :)

btw I have windows xp home edition sp3 and this is probably maybe 3-4 years old (or older). Like I said im still very new to this so if you need any other information you want me to find that can help, just ask away :)

Are you able to take the hard disk out and slave it to the computer you're posting from? The LiveCD will prove the hardware works, with or without the hard drive and although it can show you the files if eh drie still works, it may be safer to remove or disconnect the disk first.

Stage 5 of Checkdisk is only scanning the free space so any work it did to fix errors - if you told it to - had already been done. Had you specified finding and fixing errors?

Hi thx for replying :D. First before I answer those....

New Update: Just loaded from last known good configuration. Got me into windows everything seems fine so far, except for some freezes right now. Should I be worried about anything? Also Any idea what I should do next?

Update: Tried to boot CD, im sure drive is fine because its giving me the error " Couldnt find NTLDR" Not sure what to do but im searching for answers online hopefully to fix this mess

Now to answer the questions :

1. I actually was able to use my laptop to successful to burn a bootable CD.

2. yes i specified finding and fixing errors.

If theres any other info that anybody can provided would be great. Thank you and have a nice day

You only saw that NTLDR message because the option to boot from CD either went through too quickly without you accepting it or the system went straight too the hard disk. The NT Loader is what kickstarts Windows. Look in BIOS for the option to boot from CD first. It only takes a second to decide there is no bootable disk in the drive so it's OK to leave that setting in place.

Thx :D. Tried it,restarted, and didnt work. Few things have been going good thou.

* I can load up safe mode perfectly fine (everything runs smooth, no crashes yet) except for a few errors that scroll by in the beginning.
* Chkdsk is gone at this point because it loads me straight into windows using " Last know good...."
but still it freezes alot, long response times, and gives a blue screen from time to time. (00x00007e or something dont remember that well.)

The thing Im honestly missing is the original repair/boot disk from this comp. Im sure this would solve everything instantly. I havent tested if the one im currently using is working or not on other hard drives ( XD laptop is also screwed up dont wanna risk my one help source). Thx for the reply and for future answers :D

Update: Running system restore not sure if this is gonna help much but hopefully it does
