What exactly is an SSD

Solution
Simple answer.

It is a new type of hard drive that is MUCH faster. You'll notice that they are much more expensive per GB as well. For the average user, they are basically eye candy. It makes windows boot times incredibly fast, but other than that, you would never even notice you had one.

If you are looking at buying a new computer, and trying to decide if you need an SSD, just let us know what you would use your computer for, and we'll let you know if you really need one.

A little extra info, it stands for Solid State Drive, which means there are no moving parts. It's basically like a large flash drive, but it uses HDD ports instead of USB which are a fair bit faster, so general loading and start-up times can be very quick. It should not replace an HDD all together, though.

SSD's do have less space and shorter lifes so often people have both, (or sometimes it's too expensive or pointless to have just SSD space). The fast SSD for windows and some programs/games, but movies/pictures and other files on the HDD.
